10-22-09 Thursday (Argumentative)

I started an argument on Facebook today.  I become a fan of a lot of different thinks on Facebook.  Sometimes it’s for 100% fun, sometimes so people will get a better feel for who I am, sometimes it’s for coupons, etc.  For example, I’m a fan of “not being stabbed repeatedly”, “Not being on fire”, “I love Coldstone”, etc.  I recently became a Facebook fan of Morningstar Farms and even got some coupons from them.  Today they posted a Jambalaya-Style Rice with Shrimp and Sausage recipe using their veggie sausage.  The ingredients:

1 package (9 oz.) Veggie Italian Style Sausage
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 can (14.5 oz.) diced tomatoes
3/4 cup uncooked long grain rice
1 1/2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
8 oz. frozen, peeled and deveined shrimp, thawed
1/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth

You would have thought the earth stopped spinning.  Other fans grabbed their torches and ridiculed them (Morningstar Farms) for not being 100% veggie.  Chicken broth?  Shrimp?  Ugh.

My reply?

Oh geez people. I eat meat but love Morning Star for lower calorie, reduced fat meal solutions. It's not always about YOU. Tweak the recipe to your liking. Pssssst, I bet their workers eat meat. Egads!

image I couldn’t help it.  It hit a nerve.  The words flowed out of my brain to my fingers like, uhhhh, like diarrhea.  Mmmmm, maybe more like melted delicious chocolate.  Is that better?  Anyway, the next 20-30 or so comments were more like arguments about vegetarians, vegan, flexatarians, pescetarians, their beliefs and definitions.

Point of the story?  Yeah, uh, use torches outdoors.

Jim had a phone interview today.  I seemed to have went well.  Still nothing on the other positions he applied for.  He’s gotten a few rejection letters but not even at a fraction of what he’s applied for.

I’ve heard back from mine.  Nothing good, nothing bad.  Just a hold for a few days.  I have a second interview for Saturday.  Wish me success.  Screw the luck.

image Our friends Dave, Mike, and David hosted a Windows 7 party in the evening.  It was a promotion by Microsoft to advertise their new version of Windows.  The party included Windows 7 paraphernalia such as napkins, totes, a puzzle, etc.  Windows 7 appears to be faster and easy yet similar to Windows Vista which I already have on my laptop.  Jim has XP on his laptop.  I’m not sure I’ll run out for Windows 7 just yet.

That’s all I got.  I’m craving farm animal right now…

  1. Good for you for making a very valid point and at the same time demonstrating their lack of sanity on the issue!!!

  3. don't want to start an argument but...about Windows 7...it appears to me, they are just trying to play, catch-up. Most of the new features are what was already on the Mac, years ago. And you still have to fight all the viruses(on the PC, not the mac). Guess you can tell, I am a MAC fan. Heck I have been working with PC's and windows for way too many years, and do so even now at work. All I can say is, it is a pleasure to come home, fire up the MAC and not deal with all those damn PC problems I deal with everyday at work. It just works! Nuff said!

  4. No argument from me Ken. I've never even touched a MAC so I can't defend a PC. My friend Dave who hosted the Windows 7 party is a big time PC guy. He builds them, fixes them, does websites, etc. I took my lead from him way back when.
