1-2-10 Saturday (Hia!)

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  Once again, we’ve brought unseasonable weather to North Carolina.  This time, it’s not about a record low, it’s about how long it’s lasting.  Thanks to Dave for finding this article dated January 1st.

“Forecasters say the coldest stretch of weather in years if not decades could be heading for North Carolina.
While temperatures won’t be falling to record lows, the National Weather Service says the duration of the cold weather is unusual. Highs could struggle to get above freezing for the next week in areas from Raleigh west.
Forecasters say there are some indications the weather with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens could last up to two weeks. A cold snap like that was last seen in January 1977.
A wind chill advisory has been issued for the mountains. Once the temperature dips below freezing Friday evening, forecasters say it might not get above 32 degrees again until Tuesday or Wednesday.”

I’m sure we’re not in the coldest temperatures compared to some readers but I’ll bitch anyway.

Carl and Tim were up early this morning.  Today they leave us and on the way home to Florida, they’ll stop in Hiawassee, GA to visit with Carl’s father and stepmother.  What, you don’t know where Hiawassee is?  Me either.

Hia

We said our goodbyes to Carl and Tim.  Tears were held back.  Shortly after they left, I found this in the guest room:

2010-01-02 03

2010-01-02 06  2010-01-02 052010-01-02 04

It’s a guest book of sorts for the guest room.  What an excellent idea!  I’ve never heard of such a thing but am glad they had.  Oh well, screw holding back the tears.  Jim and I got teary eyed.  Now I just need some more damn visitors!

In the early afternoon, the Time Warner services dude showed up to install our cable and internet.  We ordered cable, internet and phone.  No phone.  He doesn’t do phone.  Someone else does phone.  No one else showed up to do phone so I guess I’ll have to call.

The install was a success.  Now we have digital cable with 600 channels of nothing.  Awesome!

With the remainder of the day, we unpacked, moved, repacked, repositioned, cleaned, and organized.

  1. Here I am! Here I am! Oh, oh, oh. Pick me! Pick me! I want to be your next house guest and write on page two of your fabulous Guest Book!

PS: Somebody please call Al Gore and tell him Global Warming failed to show up in Charlotte.

  2. Love love love the guest book! What an awesome gift!

My parents have a gust book that they ask new visitors to sign when they come to their house. It was their wedding guest book- but no one remembered to bring it to the wedding. Oops. So it became household tradition instead. I was mortified about it when I was a teenager but now I think it's really cool to look back and see the signatures of all the guests who have visited my parents over the course of their 25 year marriage.

  3. Hey bitch!
The guest room journal sounds like reallllyyyy sweet idea. Those are some classy gays.

OK, now that you are in Charlotte, AKA my old stomping grounds, here are a few things you must do:

Take your man out to a fancy dinner at Villa Antonio on South Blvd. It's fabulous. Order the lobster ravioli.

Go for drinks at Tutto Mundo (Also on South..well, everything's on South, isn't it?)

Explore North Davidson and laugh at the strange hippie people.

Find new and fabulous places for Daniel and I to go.

    love ya
    xoxo

  4. The guest book is a good idea! If I were y'all, I'd fill it in with fake guests...

"Had a great time singing songs with you guys and trying on those sparkly glitter boots! Love always, Rhonetta"

    Stuff like that.
