Ah, a day of nothingness. Almost. I called Rick (of Rick and Jonathan) whom is also unemployed. Rick had some errands to do, so we, the unemployed duo, ran Rick’s errands together. He was in search of “onlays”. Ya know, those wooden decorative thingys.
Yes, that’s it. Like those. We went to Michael’s first. Nope. Home Depot next. Nope. Lowe’s. Bingo. Rick was reworking a couple of oval mirrors. He’s an interior designer. Maybe he’ll suggest I paint my living room walls?
Rick & Jonathan also have an antiques booth at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. It’s open 7 days a week and they don’t have to physically be there. The mall oversees the sales. The mall itself is HUGE. I’m not really into antiques but did enjoy looking at some of the vintage stuff.
That’s Rick. He’s reorganizing an empty space where a recently sold item once sat.
To finish off the day, we had lunch at a Greek diner, the Skyland Restaurant. I had a Greek salad. It had all of the things I can eat. I skipped their sugary salad dressing and had plain ole oil and vinegar. I enjoyed it. I’m so proud of myself. I’m not sure what it is about Atkins compared to other diets that enables me to have will power? If I were on a low cal diet, I would have totally caved. Jim can attest that 99% of the time we’ve went out, I’ve never ordered a salad.
After 8 months of using the onboard washer/dryer, I discover it’s been dispensing soap and fabric softener at the same time. I bitch about California recycling. read all about it here. |
Well, back to menial around the house tasks then off to the gym.
Kudos to you for sticking to your diet! Keep us informed how your doing. I've been eating chocolate Easter bunnies like there's no tomorrow and I just polished off a bowl of dark chocolate kisses. Needless to say I'm getting a little pudgy, ok alot pudgy. Maybe I'll give it a try. :-)--Randy
ReplyDeleteThanks fellas! I love chocolate but oddly not having any cravings.
ReplyDeleteWell done Garret! Next time we chat on the phone remind me to tell you why you have no cravings. It's not a miracle, it's basic physiology at it's very best. :o) As for Rick, he's a cutie! I have a handwritten journal from the 1800s with samples of dried flowers and leaves inside. I wonder if he'd consider selling it for me, or directing me to an appraiser?
ReplyDeleteLove you bunches. Pearl
Hola Chico!
ReplyDeleteSwing by the Casa and pick up a little something in your honor, chica.
Stop rolling your eyes and just do it.
You're not having cravings because you're not eating sugar or artificial sweeteners which cause blood sugar/insulin imbalances and result in those cravings. You're eating natural foods that are high in protein so you're not hungry. Low-cal diets are BS; DIETS (as in, the short-term, quick fix "diet," as opposed to the lifelong choice of eating a healthy, whole-foods diet) are BS...like your friend noted above, it is basic physiology. Give your body what it NEEDS and it will be satisfied. Load it up with chemicals that it doesn't know how to process and they will be stored as fat, no matter what type of foods (carbs, sugars, fats) they are to begin with. And rememer, no workout can out-work a bad diet. Keep it going, brother.
ReplyDelete@Norma: Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. I thought you were against Atkins. Is it the tons of veggies I eat that makes it better?
ReplyDeleteI found Atkins empowering when I did it, too. Good for you!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you have a headache when you stopped the carbs? I had a killer one for 3 days when i did Adkins.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I diabetic diet is very similar to Adkins... fairly low carbs, higher protein, no sugar whatsoever. No wonder my glucose levels are high these days.... way too many carbs in my diet.
@Joanie: As of Friday, I'm starting the 5th day. I had a slight headache the other morning but otherwise no. I'm taking a multivitamin- maybe that helps.
ReplyDeleteI love the Skyland restaurant! They have a killer veggie sub.
ReplyDeleteI'm not against Atkins but I don't believe in quick fix diets. Atkins may be a good way for you to kind of shock your body into losing some lbs but long term I don't think it's sustainable, is all. If it helps you get over the hump, beat the sugar craving cycle, etc. all good...a lot of its principles make nutritional sense (at least now that they've stopped saying it's okay to eat 10 slices of bacon and 6 eggs three meals a day); more veggies are ALWAYS a good thing...complex carbs are GOOD for you and a good source of fiber and you need things like brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc. for energy and also to properly absorb proteins. I'm glad it's working for you.
