5-22-09 Friday (300 Less The Abs)

image Here I am, 300 posts later.  We said farewell to Fort Myers, FL on August 16th, 2008.  That was 9 months ago!  I could have had a baby!  Well, I look pregnant anyway.  We’ve been on the road about 3 months longer than expected thus far and still have more to go.  Regrets?  Nah.  Wishes?  Yeah.  I would have liked to have toured the east coast line up to New York and see Niagara Falls but we won’t have the money for that.  We’ve spent more time in other states than we thought we would.  That’s not a bad thing though.  I’m grateful for what we’ve already done and what we’re about to do.

And as far as doing things, today we went to City Park again, and had lunch at the picnic table pavilion.

After lunch, we went to the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum which is part of the Smithsonian’s Institution’s Affiliations Program. Unfortunately, no photos were permitted.  I will tell you that they did an awesome job of displaying the information.  It’s displays were informative and kept our interest which is rare for us in museums. I downloaded a video from their website and included it here if you were so interested.  It’s 10 minutes long.

Other than that, we drove around doing some local neighborhood sight seeing.  Here’s some photos from today:

Above: Up a downtown Bisbee side street.  Left side of the building, above the windows is a sign that reads “Pig Turd Alley”.

Above/Below: Remember the lady who got a leopard purse out of the gated junk?  Well, the car on the street was there but today, it has a pallet tied to the back.  The picture below is a better look.  Did they tie it so no one would steal it?  Was it tied to drag it behind the car because it wouldn’t fit inside?  Also notice the rock under the passenger front tire.  Scary.

We’re gonna go mingle with the new people at the campground.  See ya!

  1. I'm really surprised at how many places aren't allowing pictures. Did they just say "no photography" or did they specify "no flash photograhy"? Just curious. :) A long exposure and a tripod can get a picture in light too dim to see by.

And lol at that H&R Block place..when y'all get hired, can I come work for ya? :)

I don't even want to know how much time that one homeowner spends cleaning out and refilling all their hummingbird feeders. I think I could count like 12 of them. Wowzers. I have bird feeders, but they are the seed kind that don't need filled more than once/twice a week.

And they don't drip from every projectile in my yard!

There seem to be quite a few, um..... "extreme" people there.

    Must be the heat. ;)

And I have solidified my earlier opinion, that park is very sparse. Surely there's a flower or two that would grow in a pot there? A funky shaped cactus? A pot of sage?

  2. Jeff and I cracked up over the signs. Colon therapy... bwahahaha!

Love the hummingbird pic- too cool!!

I guess there aren't any concerns about Homeowner's Associations in Bisbee, eh?

  3. I do have a question. The hot tub/lounge chair picture... is that someone's personal stuff or does it belong to the campground?

Congrats on 300 posts!! It's too bad you can tour the east coast. When you go back to Florida, where will you stay? Have you decided where you want to settle down? (ok, so I asked 3 questions.)

  4. @Walk On: No photography. :-( Because some of the exhibits aren't theirs was a reason.

I didn't even count the feeders. Very odd to have some much "stuff".

Yeah, they need some stuff at the campground.... badly. I think the owner spends money on stupid stuff.

@Liz: Well, if there were a homeowner's association, it's run by artists and hippies.

@Joanie: Yeah that's the campgrounds stuff in the picture.

We're not sure where we'll settle down yet.

  5. I laughed out loud for real a couple of times, LOL!!

    Colon Therapy??....

Yeah, exactly when ARE they open for business...that really cracked me up!

And some pretty interesting choices for fencing and home decor:-)

Oh yeah, and what about that ghost/apparition looking thing in the window....me no like:-(, kinda scary looking!

  7. So tell us, after 9 months "on the road", how do you feel about going back into a regular non-moving home?

Looking forward to it, or does it seem restrictive to you now?

  8. @Walk On: I'd like to have a smaller house than we previously had and get rid of half our shit. I'm not sure that Jim is on board with that. I want less stuff, less to clean, and more affordable so that we don't live beyond our means. I'd be happy in a 1200 SF home instead of the 2000 we had previously.
