5-16-09 Saturday (Stopping A Runaway VW Camper)

It was a rather laid back day.  We slept in and got a late start.  Fred & Carl left their RV a little earlier than us.  Jim and I decided to tour old downtown Bisbee.  What a cool downtown.  It’s lined with cafes, antique shops, and tons of art galleries.  Unfortunately, as with most of the country, it’s plagued with abandoned buildings and belly-up businesses.  We did see Fred & Carl walking around downtown, pulled over and chit-chatted for a few minutes.

We found the local supermarket, Safeway, and explored nearby.  I discovered, along with confirmation from the GPS, that there is a Burger King but not a McDonalds.  That just struck me as odd.  Within what seemed like the only shopping plaza in Bisbee, amongst Safeway, stood a Dollar General, Alco, and a Family Dollar.  3 discount stores?  How do all 3 survive?  Jim and I have noticed that a lot of small towns out in the middle of no where have a Dollar General.  Strange.

I made lasagna for dinner.  As usual, I used aluminum foil loaf pans and squeezed out 5 loaves.  That doesn’t sound right. I read that line out load to Jim, we laughed.  Anyway, I usually can only get 4 pans but I had a lot of meat left.  The 5th pan is a little – challenged.  It has extra meat and cheese but not much ricotta.  I’m sure it will be fine.  If you remember, I make it in loaf pans because it serves 2 and each is the perfect size to store in our tiny freezer.  Creativity!

After dinner, we went up to the entertainment complex and hung out while eating salty popcorn and drink beer and wine coolers.  They don’t have a liquor license but the wine coolers are OK for me.  I went into the hot tub for quite a while and when I got back to the bar, Jim was on his 800th beer or such.  I had to play adult and remind him of the terrible hangover that his old body will have.

  1. I loved Bisbee though it has been a while. I was afraid to waste my time on the rv park. Still not sure if I would try it. Would you return?

    Hope you keep enjoying safe travels!

  3. Beautiful city! I'm so glad I get to travel vicariously through you. :)

    And, btw, the loaf remark was HI-larious. And then you went on to discuss your meat issues. Priceless.

  4. @Scott: Not sure yet! This place needs some help!

    @Aaron: It was yummy!

    @Mandi: It's actually an impoverished city as the tour guide says. It seems like a cool place if you're on the freakish side.
