5-12-09 Tuesday (A Nightly Trek)

calendar_icon I’m sorry I haven’t updated our itinerary lately.  It’s just that I don’t care what you think.  Oooo, my bad…that was suppose to be just a thought, not a keystroke.  Anyway, it’s just that I don’t have specific dates yet.  Sometimes we plan to be some where for a specific length of time.  Sometimes we extend our visit because of events.  As you know, we extended this Phoenix event by a week and are now set to depart on Friday.

RainbowRV We’ve booked our next stop to Bisbee.  Bisbee has a gay/lesbian campground.  That’s what originally drew us in.  We haven’t stayed at a gay campground since Georgia.  Why?  Well, because as many gay campgrounds as there are around the country, most are off the beaten-path and away from anything we want to do without a long-ass drive from no where to some where.  Now the draw to Bisbee has been the city itself.  When we mention going to Bisbee, people have been excited about it.  We get positive reactions from people who have been there.  We’ve only booked for about 4 days so far.  Before we commit ourselves to more days, we want to see how it goes.  It depends on the sightseeing as well as the friendships we hope to forge while at the park.  We use rainbowrv.com to checkout campgrounds.

In the meantime, here’s the cities we think we’ll be hitting next: Bisbee, Roswell, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, Jackson, New Orleans, Atlanta, then Florida.  Of course this is all subject to change and we don’t have dates yet.

The Container Store® - The Original Storage and Organization Store®Just for something to do, I decided I’d like to see what the Container Store is all about.  What a cool place.  We bought nothing.  BUT what a cool place.  Nah, still bought nothing.  They had storage solutions out the ying yang.  Boxes made of all sorts of materials.  Fabric, cardboard, plastic, metal, etc.  Awesome.  Maybe more awesome if we needed anything.

After the Container Store, we went to IKEA.  We were just kinda looking around, mostly for a new sofa cover.  I think I’ll try and make something first.  Dasher tore up the one we had on the couch.  Sigh.  Destructo-Dog.

I snapped this photo in the IKEA bathroom (doesn’t EVERYONE bring a camera into a public bathroom?)  It’s a Dyson Airblade and it dries hands with very powerful air and very quickly.  Usually Jim and I HATE hand driers, but we’d take this any day.  By the way, this is what happens when I have too much time on my hands.

Above: Just read the sign from IKEA.  This is just wrong.

Driving around town, I’ve spotted the Cold Stone Creamery corporate office.  It’s awfully ironic, don’t ya think, that it’s located in a desert environment?  We love Cold Stone!

Tonight was the big IMAX Star Trek night.  The theater was about 30 minutes away from us.  Jim stumbled upon a 15 day trial (it expired now, sorry) for Entertainment Books on-line where he can print the coupons himself.  We’ve been using coupons all week.  Even the Biosphere was buy one, get one free.  Normally $20 each.  Anyway, we didn’t have a coupon for this location IMAX but we did for the 5 & DinerWe had a buy one, get one free.  We both had burgers.  The food was good.

Oh, and we were by ourselves.  Levi and Tony bailed out due to one or both of them (Jim took the call) not feeling well.

Onward to the IMAX.  Between dinner and the movie, we killed time at Target.  We bought 2 clearance t-shirts for $2.50 each and some candy to smuggle into the theater.  Hey, they are ridiculously priced for candy.  It was bad enough to pay $4.75 each large drink!

OK, the IMAX experience was cool.  We thought it was going to be a bigger screen and maybe even partially wrap around the side walls.  After a while, we realized that even though there is no wrap around, it’s still a larger screen.  The sound system in the theater was awesome.  The movie itself was awesome.

  2. Aaron, we might do Sawmill... not sure. On the way out of Florida we did Camp David in Inverness (which we didn't like too much, and were chased out by that 8/08 storm and to Lumberjacks.

  10. I knew you'd like Star Trek. Did you know that the actor who plays Chekhov has parents who were born in Russia and migrated here? His accent is authentic!

What is the draw for Bisbee, AZ?
