Jim wanted to go make use of the fitness equipment on the premises. As I was getting changed into gym attire, he went to make sure it was open. (I’ll take pictures later). Anyway, he came back with a “no go”. Apparently the cable weight type machine wasn’t smooth pulling, like it needed oiled and only one person can use this machine since all stations share the weights/pulleys. Jim says the NordicTrack machine requires unreal coordination to use. That leaves both of us out. There’s also a stationary bicycle which seemed OK.
We’ve extended our visit into Memorial Day hoping the holiday may bring more guests. Right now I think there’s a total of 5 guests here (including us). I’m really trying to give this place a chance but it’s really not that great. Sometimes it’s the people who make it fun, rather than the facilities. Some close friends can relate to how we’ll stretch our patience out because it’s a gay establishment. Instead of saying I’ll never come back again, we find ourselves making excuses on their behalf. Unfortunately not everyone will do that and with today’s economy, if people are going to spend money, they’ll want to be sure it’s worth it.
This afternoon we had a picnic lunch at City Park and then took a copper mine tour (Queen Mine Tours). It was pretty cool. I’m sorry for my over used word of cool/kewl. It’s so much better than saying nice. Nice is too general. The tour wasn’t awesome, but cool. Ya know? Whatever. So, here’s some photos:
Above: Near City Park. I dunno either. Bisbee is very “unique”.
Above: Lunch at the City Park pavilion.
Above: Lower left is in yesterday’s post. Here’s the rest of the building in day light.
Above: To the left of the strange building from above.
Above: Another shot of the thing I’m not sure of. Looks like a Voodoo priestess. Behind “her” is a dinosaur.
Above: Next to City Park, this was called Bark Park. Maybe a dog park? It looked junky.
Above/Below: The owner REALLY likes Hillary Clinton.
Above/Below: Downtown Bisbee. Since the town is so terraced, there’s steps all over. Some are 80+ to get to a home.
Above: And so starts the mine tour. We rode in on a mine car and then got off at different spots to tour further.
Above: Mandatory garb. Raincoats, battery pack with flashlight and hardhats.
Above/Below: The entrance to the mine.
Above: Video of us traveling into the mine.
Above: Some steps to a different level.
Above: Rock dumps from a level above into mine cars.
Above: The boss road this around to check progress.
Above: The tour guide over-explains how they drill, and blast holes.
Above: A portable toilet for 2 prior to port-a-potties.
Above/Below: After the tour, I decide to try out the portable toilets.
Love your mining hats...so kewl
ReplyDeleteGarret, you look like you could use a dose or two of Miralax! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis definitely seems like an odd little town... what are the people like??
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pic of you guys in your Gorton's Fisherman coats!!
Mining... I actually come from a long line of PA coal miners. My grandfather invented some sort of drill bit or something. So while I haven't visited a copper mine, I've been in a few coal mines. And Jeff works for a company that mines limestone so he's been down in those mines. I think they all pretty much work the same basic way.
Playing catch-up here. I'm reading these posts newest to oldest and wondering why you like Bisbee so much. The first pics I see are very rundown parts of town. Then, as I got to the older posts, I saw the charm of the town. The campsite definitely needs some character!
ReplyDeleteMe likey!
ReplyDeleteEspecially the Hillary Car (I bet it suffers from a lot of pollutants and gassy emissions) and the photo of you and Jim in your manly slickers. Zzzzexy!
Oh, and what is up with that Aunt Jemimah looking "thing" at the mouth of the mine? You sure do find some wacky stuff.
@Alix: Aunt Jemimah thing is not at the mine. That's where we had lunch, at City Park.
ReplyDelete@Ken: I loved them too. I was bummed that I couldn't attach my light to the hat.
ReplyDelete@Douglas: I was wondering if someone would comment on that.
@Liz: This is a VERY odd and quirky town. I will post more on this.
@Joanie: Bisbee is charming, in it's own special way.

ReplyDelete@Jackie: C'mon, you won't even have to limp, you can ride the miner car.
