What a messed up day. I won't go into details. As we filled the RV fuel tank, we found the water heater leaking. After fueling up, a few blocks away, a right turn gone bad led to us blocking a major intersection in San Diego. We held up traffic while we unhooked the Jeep. Damn San Diegans really know how to use a horn!
At a nearby park, we stopped to reattach the Jeep and we discovered a problem. Sure, another problem as if holding up traffic wasn't enough. The Jeep's brake lights and turn signals wouldn't work when controlled by the RV. Great, so now we have no brake lights or turn signals. 2 Camping Worlds I called on the way to Palm Springs "couldn't possibly" squeeze us in despite our emergency. We decided, SCREW IT and drove as is. If we got pulled over, we'd act very surprised about the situation.
We took a very scenic route to Palm Springs. Probably over scenic. It was up and over mountains, on winding roads. It was pretty severe. Enough so that this was the first time the GPS lost satellite signals many a time. We did get to stop at the top to a scenic vista viewpoint. We were able to see what looked like Palm Springs below, in the valley. If it wasn't Palm Springs, then it was damn close.
The first city was Palm Desert. Everything looked new, like it had sprung up overnight. The green grass, palm trees and flowering plants were so beautiful. Each side of the street for miles was decked out. I felt like we were driving out of a black and white movie and into color.
We arrived at the Cathedral Palms RV Resort. The sites are wide. The park isn't a square block, so some of the sites are angled enough to feel more rustic rather than cookie cutter. The place has many trees, tall shrubs and palms to quickly forget this area is mostly desert.
We've had to turn the A/C on. First time in a long time for that. Once settled in, we changed to swim suits and walked over to the pool & hot tub area. We had a nice conversation with an older couple while in the pool. Funny, the wife finished EVERY story the husband started to tell. She wasn't happy unless she was running her mouth (shut up Tim). A quick dip in the hot tub and back to the RV we went.
With some clothes back on, we set out to Wang's in the Desert. Shann Carr, a comedian we've seen many times on our cruises lives in Palm Springs. When we mentioned we'd like to see her, she said she would be at Wang's for happy hour. This place was like Mo's. Gay restaurant and bar and just as Mo's was, very well done (classy). The one thing this place is that Mo's wasn't is a fire hazzard waiting to happen. We could barely walk through this place, let alone find Shann Carr. So many queers in one spot, one would have thought Cher was hanging out there. What a mess.
With Wang's out of the question for a drink as well as dinner, we ate at home. After dinner, we went to Walmart for the week's groceries. Yay.
The evening is at 72 degrees and the A/C has switched off. It's so quiet. No highways, trains or planes. Awesomeness.
Hey Garret and Jim, I can't believe that you drove your RV down the mountain on hwy 74 into Palm Desert! I bet your knuckles were white as snow holding onto the steering wheel and your brakes were fire-engine red from the heat while going down that steep grade.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it safe,

@Mark&Craig: Actually it wasn't too bad. We've been a lot worse! Think roads like in Long, Long Trailer.
ReplyDeleteCrazy... aren't we?
Garret
Have you been to the Cathedral City Boys Club yet????
ReplyDeleteInteresting place LOL
What...What....What did I say. And by the way what is that hanging over your belt in the pic's
ReplyDelete@Pete: Not yet, but we possibly will.
ReplyDelete@Tim: The same thing you have, Carl has and a lot of over 30 year olds do. Sigh.
Good luck with the repairs!
