4-8-10 Thursday (Hump Day)

Overall, it’s been a pretty rough day for me.  It started with me getting up at 8.  I got my first cup of coffee and headed to the computer.  On the screen was my reminder program doing it’s job and reminding me about a 9am dentist appointment.  I exclaimed some explicative or 2 or 3, guzzled my coffee down, showered, got dressed, and headed out the door.  I made it on time.  I didn’t get a chance to eat anything; I knew I’d be miserable later when I’d be either too numb to eat or in pain.

Today’s torturous appointment was to be 2 hours worth of needles and fillings.  4 old metal fillings needed to be replaced.  The plus side – the last of my metal fillings would be gone.  How modern of me.  The downside?  Well, split your mouth into 4 quadrants.  Like upper-left, lower-left, etc.  Well, I had 1 per quadrant which meant a needle per quadrant.  It sucked.  The 2 hour time turned into 3 hours, a portion of which was some unexpected time the doctor had to leave me to numb another patient for the hygienist.

After the procedures the dentist said I need 4 crowns.  2 of which are needed soon.  OK, how much does insurance cover?  $0.  I maxed out my benefits for the year!  2 crowns will be $2621.00!  Can you hear the concern in my voice?  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There.  I’m just majorly freaking out today.  $2600 for 2, let’s not forget about the other 2 that I “should really have, but can wait”.  Of course I can’t help but feel like “high maintenance”.  Maybe a defective model?  Me – dermatologists, cholesterol woes, dental nightmare, and the hump on my back.  No, knock on printer ink, no hump.  Not yet.

image Oh, and speaking of falling apart, this year will be my 40th birthday.  40!  Over the hill.  I think it’s going to be fairly lackluster.   See, what I mean about a rough day?  Employment, dental, finances, pain, and getting older.

  3. Well, I can feel every bit of your dental pain. I have about $10,000 worth of porcelain and the rest are falling out. I have one tooth that has undergone the root canal to prepare for a crown, except I couldn't afford the crown after. Two years later I'm using over the counter temporary filling until I can afford to have the remnants of that tooth pulled. I would have them all pulled if it weren't for the crowns. Oy. No matter how well I take care of them they're still rotting away.

  4. 40 is "over the hill"? Hey, it is just a number. You are as young as you feel! Mind over matter! Embrace it, enjoy it, look forward to another 40 or more years. Hey, do you have any other choice? Might as well make the best of it.

    And...have a fabulous Birthday, dear!!!

  6. Didn't you know....40 is the new 30! Anyway, oh to be 40 again....or even 50 again....shees! I am old!!!

And if you got on Craig's schedule it wouldn't hurt as bad...1 crown one year, a root canal the next, another crown the next year...etc. etc. etc.....
