7-9-09 Thursday (VooDoo Mart for Supplies)

Jim’s Dad, Terry, arrived today. He’s staying at a hotel in the French Quarter and we’re within walking distance of one another. Since I’m writing these entries days later, I might as well say that we’ve been doing an enormous amount of walking! Good exercise… I guess.

Above/Below: Bourbon Street should be children free. While there aren’t tons of children, sadly there are some. What were these parents thinking? There’s many more place like this than what I grabbed a photo of.

Above: Jim is ready to depart for the cemetery tour. We missed a little of the tour at the end because we were so hot. I was sweating so much, my arms were wet. Ewwwwww.

The tour guide walked us to various places and explained some New Orleans history.

Above: Short and sweet. Land is at a premium. New Orleans is below sea level so burying isn’t an option. Casket and body are slide into the pizza oven looking vaults. Just over a year later the casket can be removed, the remains placed into the bottom of the vault along with others, dispose of the casket and reuse the space.

Above: Dinner! I had a New Orleans sampler. Gumbo, jambalaya, and beans and rice. Awesomeness!

Above: Yeah, you read the sign right.

After an evening of walking, drinking, walking, drinking, and drinking we ditched Terry, returned to the RV, showered/changed and went back out to some gay bars.

Oh, and I’m tired of laundry. It’s so hot, we shower/change 2-3 times a day! Ugh.

Most of the blog entries will be stories by pictures. It’s the only way to keep 3-4 days worth of fun in my head.

  1. I love the pics!! As much traveling as I've done, I've never been to New Orleans and I would love to go some day. I know it's super hot/humid there in the summer though so I think I'd have to go in the spring or fall.

  3. LOVE Santa's Fanny! What some people will do to avoid getting a job. Oh wait... who am I to talk.

New Orleans was the first trip I ever took with Larry, and it was wonderful. So exciting to travel and see new places. We visited a really cool VooDoo shop on Bourbon Street (there are hundreds in the city), but alas, not the VooDoo liquor store. There all your demons are consolidated!

Larry regularly travels to N.O. as part of his sales territory. I keep begging him to bring me along, but so far he hasn't taken me up on my offer.
