7-10-09 Friday (Do You Know These People?)

The RV park is behind this old Winn Dixie.  It was looted after Katrina and never reopened. This is the Zombie Zone, as I call it, that I referred to the other day.

Above: Throughout the city are these brass caps.  They are removed to inject pesticides for termites and such.

Above:  This was a great place for lunch.  I had a Muffuletta, another New Orleans local staple.

Above: Behind me is the Mississippi, where we’ll be boarding in a few moments to take a paddle boat cruise.  Ahead of me is the backside of the old Jackson Brewery which is now an indoor mall.  The train tracks run a trolley.

Above: Our boat, the Natchez, is behind Jim.  He’d make a better door than a window, eh?

Above: St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square.  Later in the evening, we’ll come back here for a carriage ride/tour.  It reminds me of the Disney castle.

Above: The cruise was good.  Lots of information and fun.  The guide was a little monotone.   Now it’s raining.

 2009-07-10 LA 49

Above: The sun is back out with a vengeance.  The steamy pavement.  Oh, and look, silver people with a silver baby carriage.  The baby was silver too.  It was a doll though.

I’m sure all the menu items are over kill story telling but:

Above: Emeril’s Nola!  Click on the link to see the menu.  All of it was awesome.  Appetizers we shared: Miss Hay’s Stuffed Chicken Wings with Homemade Hoisin Dipping Sauce; Emeril’s Barbecued Gulf Shrimp with Rosemary Biscuit; Crispy Duck Livers with Slow Cooked Southern Greens, Caramelized Onions and Creole Mustard Cream.  I didn’t care for the duck livers much.  Jim and Terry liked it.

Dinner: I had the Grilled Rib Eye with German Style Fingerling Potato Salad, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Coarse Grain Mustard Cream and Roasted Leeks.  The sauce was divine.  Jim had Filet Mignon with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Homemade Worcestershire Sauce and Walnut-Blue Cheese Stuffed Portobello Mushroom.  Terry had Garlic Crusted Texas Redfish Cooked in the Wood Burning Oven with Brabant Potatoes, Crimini Mushrooms, Bacon and Sauce Beurre Rouge.

  1. Dammit Garret, I can see China through your nostrils.

As usual, so much great info and so many fabu photos that by the time I get to the comment form, I've forgotten everything. Let me meditate...

    Ohm.

    K. Back with a couple things. First... in that crazy hippie tee-shirt, Jim looks more like a portal into another galaxy than either a door or a window.

I LOVE Muffulettas. Now they're but a memory.

St Louis Cathedral DOES look like Cinderella's Castle!

    Isn't the Mississippi brown?

"Old people,... they nap alot." I laughed so hard, I tooted.

RE: Silver people with a baby carriage. Was there also a silver baby? Geez, some people demand a lot of freaking attention, don't they?

I thought NOLA was Britney Spears' restaurant project. (??)

Very cool nighttime carriage ride photo.

I'm chomping at the bit to see you guys in fifteen days!! Please don't wear out your weirdness in the meantime. I need you at your silly best in St Augustine. There WILL be picture evidence taken.

  6. OK, I think the guy with big ass beads is over-compensating for something....don't know what, so we'll just guess, maybe start a rumor.
