7-3-09 Friday (Boiled, Oiled, Steamed and Rubbed)

Sadly, I have updated the Google Itinerary Calendar for what may be, the last time. At this point, we’ll be “home” to Fort Myers, Florida on August 4th. Then what? I don’t know. I’m kind of sad and excited all at once? Even though I was in Florida FebruMarch, I’m still excited to see friends and family. It’s been a long time for Jim so he’s chomping at the bit. Of course, a big part of me never wants this traveling to end. The emotions don’t stop there. Nervousness. What will we do? Can we find work? Can I find work? What if I’m pregnant? Sorry, that was a different list.

You distracted me and now I forgot where I was. Ummmm, oh, itinerary, coming home, blah, blah, right. So we’re also planning to see St. Augustine. My parents have mentioned that they think it’s a great city and now finally after 20 years of Florida living, I’ll get to see it. Not only will I get to see it but with Alix as our tour guide. AND we might be lucky enough to meet her sisters Mo and Li (Mona and Lisa, get it? Alixandra’s parents may have had a sense of humor.) if the timing is right.

So now:

* We’ve got plans with Jim’s dad in New Orleans (Nawlins)

* A revisit to Unadilla, GA to redo our 1st rained out trip and see friends we made at the beginning of the trip.

* Atlanta, Georgia area for Jim to see his brother John again.

* St. Augustine with a fellow Blogger, Alix.

* Home with friends and family.

The final leg of the trip is pretty cool.

OK, so now for the Buckstaff Bath House review. I went to their website the other day and it said, and still says down for maintenance. I emailed them asking for a price list. As of today no reply. I was able to Google for the price list and found it on a sub page on my own. I hate when a business offers a place to email for questions or comments BUT doesn’t monitor it. It says you don’t love me.

So today we drive an hour each way to go there. We get to the counter and the lady had all drive of a broken down Yugo. Perhaps she ate too much at lunch and was sleepy? Blah suits her. We purchased the $50 package. Here’s the gist:

1- We were issued a loofa. We put our valuables in a locker drawer.

2- We went to the men’s locker room. The attendant here was half dead. That’s the way I’d describe it. We went into a dressing room, got nekked, put our stuff in a locker, dressed in a sheet like ghosts or maybe to attend a toga party.

3- He walked us to an area and pointed to some chairs. Jim and I got different attendants here for the next steps. My attendant seemed like a well, the best word is schlep. He was like Igor or something. He grunted, groaned, limped, pointed, sighed and such. Ugh.

4- I got into a hot bath with a external jet pumping water around. It was about 100 degrees. He gave me a little shot glass cuppy thing of water. The video the other day showed 3 cups of water. After a long time, he came back, emptied a lot of the water and had me sit up. He took my loofa, soaped it and scrubbed my legs and back. I later found out Jim got his arms done too.

5- I was brought to have a Sitz Bath. Very odd. In the picture below, it’s the thing to the left. Basically just my ass fits in there with my back to the wall. My Willy Wonka is just below the tub line. No, not in the picture now, quit looking ya perv. Anyway, it was uncomfortable and weird. Oh and no privacy but then again most of it wasn’t very private which wasn’t a big deal to me. This Sitz Bath is for lower back and hemorrhoids and who knows what else. Very hot water pours out of the slit and onto the lower back/ass region.

6- I was then walked to a 1 man steam room. Not like the one in the picture above but rather a fully enclosed tomb, I mean box. Hot water flowed under the bench I sat on. The steam was thick and fortunately I wasn’t in there very long.

7- Over to some padded tables, I was laid down on my back. The attendant wrapped me in 2 hot towels and then in a sheet. I laid there for 10-15 minutes.

8- I was walked to the needle shower. It was fine needle thin streams of water. I liked it. Here’s a photo from the other day.

9- Off to the cooling room, to cool off and wait for the massage. No more attendant.

10- A Masseur came out for me and another for Jim. The Swedish massage was the best part. Oiled up (or whatever it was that they used) and rubbed down. Nice and relaxing for 20 minutes.

11- Back to the dressing room, get dressed, then to the front desk for the valuables and then outta there.

Worth the $50.00? Hmmmmm, borderline.

As we walked to the Jeep, this was in front of us. I took several photos because depending on which way her hips were swinging, made a difference if you could read the bottom part of her shirt which says, “BIGGEST FAN”. Think people! If you’re a large person, maybe a shirt that states you are the biggest anything isn’t very flattering.

Big Fan

  4. You are giving me a swelled head for all the mentions on your blog lately, Garret.

As it turns out, Mona will be going back to Dallas on July 21st and will miss your visit, but I'm sure Lisa will insist on joining us. She manages her husband's dental practice, so she may have to work, but I'm sure she will move heaven and earth to sneak away.

    I'm already counting the days...
