7-2-09 Thursday (Inside a Slab)

We visited the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.  The informational displays were done well.

Funny, next we went to the State Capitol Building.  I say funny because I’ve never been to the one in Florida.  We took a self guided tour.  It was a pretty impressive and grand building as you’d imagine.  After a while I think I was tired of the white marble.  It did make me think of Marble Slab Creamery and Cold Stone Creamery.  What can I say?

Above: There’s Bill Clinton!  Sorry the glare on the painting blocks Monica.

Above: Bust of Orval Eugene Faubus.  He is best known for his 1957 stand against the desegregation of Little Rock public schools during the Little Rock Crisis, in which he defied a unanimous decision of the United States Supreme Court by ordering the Arkansas National Guard to stop African American students from attending Little Rock Central High School.  Boo – bad man – boo!

Above: We thought of our dear friend Pearl.  We looked for a New Jersey Flag but couldn’t find it.  Turns out it was sent out for cleaning and has never returned.  They “can’t get the smell out”, we were told.

Above/Below: On the Capitol grounds was the “Eternal Flame”.  Because it was hot outside, it’s the only thing outdoors we chose to see.  What a disappointment.  It looks like a flower pot, with a flame spewing out, sitting on top of cinder blocks.

We also went to the mall, ate some Chinese food, had some cookies at American Cookie Company (we had a 2 for 1 coupon (entertainment.com)) and then had the vehicle washed at no charge (we had a freebie coupon (entertainment.com)).

Walmart!  Yeah, we stopped for a few things.

We eventually came home and ate an awesome corned beef and cabbage crockpot creation.  It was delicious!

  1. Bahahaha on the NJ flag. She's a Floridian now anyway. I have a question....how come no mention of President Roosevelt at Hot Springs? I thought for sure it would come up when you mentioned all the illnesses they supposedly cured. Anyway, Love you guys and counting the days till you're home.

  2. Laurie, are you referring to syphilis? If so, we're cured!

  3. It amazed me at how hateful, bigoted, and violent people could be back then. Oh wait, nothing has changed except the scapegoat. Sorry for preaching to the choir.
