1-8-09 Thursday (Shaky Mexican)

This morning was a small project morning. I had gotten called for jury duty a couple of weeks back. I mailed them a letter that I'm traveling and not in Lee County. A week or 2 later, they want to speak with me for clarification. Clarify what? So I call. I explain we're traveling, we're gypsies, blah, blah. He can't cancel me for jury duty but I can pick a new date. I pick April something. I'm a little annoyed that he can't just take me off the list especially since I don't know when I'll be back. After the call, Jim asks why I didn't just tell them I don't know when I'm coming back and what do I need to do to be excused this time around, period. I don't know why I didn't so I'll have to go around with them again in April. Sigh 1.

I have sleep apnea. I use a CPAP machine. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP therapy provides a constant airflow which holds the airway open so that uninterrupted breathing is maintained during sleep. This eliminates Sleep Apnea and allows the patient to get a restful sleep. CPAP therapy is traditionally provided through a nasal mask that seals around the nose. No, you will not see an actual photo of what I look like with my gear on. The point of the story is that I called our insurance company to see where I could get supplies in network. They say our insurance is cancelled since August. Jim calls, they say he shorted the payment by the cost of the vision plan. They took the payment applied it to the vision plan and shorted the medical. WHY? A claim came through. They say they contacted us. Now we have to get them to fix our insurance. Sigh 2.

We need more pet medications. We give all 3 of them Revolution which is heart worm meds and flea repellent all in one. Before we left Florida, all 3 pets were taken into the vet and were given all tests and shots as required. We asked for the prescription copies explaining we were going to be traveling. I called the vet to make sure there would be no problem when 1800PETMEDS called to verify the prescription. The vet didn't give refillable prescriptions. I had to leave a message for the doctor. She never called back. 1800PETMEDS called the vet and was declined. I have emailed the vet office in addition to my outstanding voicemail. Sigh 3.

Off to the bodyshop we went, with the RV. We left the Jeep here at the fairgrounds. This is a Progressive Preferred shop. We'll see. We told the owner about our water leaks lately. He wasn't happy with the repairs from Bountiful in Salt Lake and thinks they may have short cutted in the repairs. Sigh 4.

After meeting with the bodyshop, we've decided to have him order all the needed parts and then come back when he's ready for us. We'll go on to San Francisco Saturday and stay a week or two.

We went to Wal-Mart, followed by Bed, Bath & Beyond to return an uncomfortable pillow. As we were in BBB, I get a text from Pearl about the earthquake. I had to call her because I wasn't sure if she was serious, and where exactly was it. Turned out she was serious but it was further south of us. See, the south is warming up for our arrival, says Pearl.

Dinner this evening was at "
On The Border", a Mexican chain. We weren't impressed.

  1. THAT, my friend, is one long list of annoyances. Especially the jury duty silliness. And the health insurance BS. Possibly the worst thing, though, is the uncomfortable pillow!!! :) Hope today is hassle-free.

  2. With all the money you've been forking over for repairs, you might have been able to buy a brand new RV. sigh... and it's not unusual for one mechanic to trash the work of another (hairdressers do it too :)
ugh jury duty. I can't beleive they aren't excusing you! Living on the other side of the country for now doesn't count as an excuse? Do you even have a permanent address at this point?
I've been to On The Border... I thought it was good.

  3. @Joanie: at on the border with both got this really big sampler platter. I found it to be 90% cheese. Jim found it too spicy. I'm sure there's other stuff we should try there.

  4. I've been to On The Border in Tennessee before and thought it was average for Mexican food. To me, the best places are the private family owned establishments... the food seems fresher and tastier!

There is a wonderful place here in Palm Springs called "El Mirasol". I think John and Derek mentioned it in their blog... Anyway, it's by far the best place for locals in the desert.

It's not uncommon to see Barry Manilow and Suzanne Somers dining together. I have not seem them there myself but several friends have on mulitple occaisons.

I'm sure your motorhome will look like new with the repairs!!
