Jim is getting ready for the day. I'm already done. He's got a another day full of adventures planned. He shared them with me last night, but I don't remember what a single one of them is right now. Maybe I was too tired. Maybe there's so much to do here, that I can't keep up with it? We're taking the Jeep into the city since it's a weekend and should be easier to contend with.
We've made it back! We've only done 2 Go-pass things today. Before we even started any tours we stopped at the Golden Gate Bridge. This time we stopped at the other end's vista point, snapped some photos and walked around. We walked onto the bridge, looked around and went back to the car. Yay, we did it!
At noon, we caught the Haas-Lilienthal House tour. This home was built in 1886 and is now home to "San Francisco Architectural Heritage". We toured this house, heard about it's history, as well as learned about the purposes of the many rooms it had.
The next Go-pass event was a walking tour. This tour departed from the Haas-Lilienthal House. The tour was entitled "Beyond Union Street: A Walk Through Cow Hollow". It was 4 of us customers and a volunteer tour guide. This made for a small group. You'd think it would go faster for a smaller group. It was to be a 2 hour walking tour and actually ended up taking 3 hours. The guide pointed out several historically rich homes. So many homes had been moved at one point or even raised up and a garage put under it. We liked this tour because we could really walk around and stare at some of these homes.
After our 3 hour WALKING tour, we sat our asses down in a park and ate a sandwich Jim made this morning. Well, 2 sandwiches. Well, 1 for me and 1 for him. Got it? To get back to the Jeep we had to walk up a few blocks of VERY steep hills. Anyone who has visited San Francisco can relate. Oh yeah, that's been most of you.
With our late lunch digesting, Jim wanted to drive down Lombard. I took photos of it today and the other day. Lombard is that screwed up twisty road that tourists like to drive at least once. We walked down it the other day, today we've driven down it. It is a really interesting road and even more interesting is the line of cars waiting to drive down it. Even more interesting than more interesting is that interestingly enough, driveways for residents are on this road as well. That must make for an interesting departure and arrival from one's home.
Since Coit Tower was close by we went there to see SF from what is said to be the best viewing point. We didn't go into the tower because by the time we got a parking spot, it was getting too dark. Since we have to pay to go up, we'll wait for a better photo opportunity. For now, I got some pretty good photos from the base of the tower.
Some great pics! I loved all the old architecture!
