9-10-09 Thursday (Floaties)

I probably would have skipped making an entry today if it hadn’t been for the flooding.  Nah, don’t worry, I didn’t let the washer lint filter clog again.  Thanks for the vote of confidence.  Sheesh.  Anyway, we went to Walmart to pickup my prescription and grab a few things.  On the way home, we hit rain, and lots of it.  For those of you who are not in Florida, you may not understand our rain.  It’s rainy season.  It rains daily.  When it rains, it pours, then it’s sunny again.  Rain here is a simple interruption.  Oh, and it’s selective.  Yes, it may rain across the street.  You may be driving and “see” the rain ahead of you.

Apparently, it rained a lot at the campground.  3 streets in our section which included the streets on either side of our sites were flooded.  Jim carefully drove our low riding car into it’s spot.  We took our socks and shoes off and made it to the RV.  The patio carpeting was floating.  The trash can floated and was laying on it’s side.

Each street has a storm drain.  They didn’t look clogged and they’ve done their job prior.  I’m not sure what happened.  What ever it was, it was seriously annoying for us and probably damaging for some of the mobile homes that have a Florida room (with furniture and all) at ground level.

Who would have thought I’d be able to make such a long post over a flood?

  1. Dear God! That'll teach you to go to Wal-Mart when you should be home blogging.

But really... that's awful. Sorry for your trouble. Going back for a sump pump?

  2. I really feel for you! Honest! 2 weeks after I moved into this apt, maintenance delivered the washer/dryer I pay a little extra for. I immediately put in a wash load and went back to work, er, back to play on the computer and forgot about the wash. A little later Emma, my cat, rubbed up against my leg and she was soaking wet! I got up to see what mischief she'd been into and found water flooding the carpet in the hall and 2 rooms, and water flooding the kitchen and bathroom. I spent the rest of the afternoon with the 2 maintenance guys as they finished draining the machine, helped me remove wet clothes, took out the offending washer, toweled up much of the water from the tiles then brought in a shop vac. Flooding is NOT nice! They left me with 2 huge floor fans that ran night and day for almost another 2 weeks.

    My sympathy.
    Yep, I've been there.

  3. The good thing is that it happened outside on the concrete pad. Anything that was deep in water was designed to hold up. Even the rug on the patio is made of plastic.

  4. Oh for crying out loud, quit whining! Next February you'll be crying over brown grass and dust. Sheesh.

  5. It's been raining non-stop for 2 days here. My basement has a few inches of water. I have to keep turning on the new sump pump because it's not set right. That reminds me... time to turn it on again!
