8-21-09 Friday (A Crappy Day)

image I decided to wash the sheets and comforter today. That went OK. Later, as I took a pee, I found water leaking from the back of the toilet. One of the pedals had gotten slightly stuck. During a normal flush, it was OK. If I duplicated the pedal stuck situation, it leaked. I have no idea why pressing the pedal partly would cause a leak. After having the great toilet discussion, we decided to replace the toilet. It’s bone, I want white. It leaks, we have no idea why. We may take it apart and find out we can’t buy the part we need. Part of it that’s unreachable is disgusting. Given more time and the challenge of boring you to death, I could probably think of an excuse or two more.

Off to Camping World we went. We looked at several models. They all seem more modern than ours. They even had a light weight porcelain instead of the plastic we have. We went for the plastic. We went for the foot pedal model rather than a handle. For ease of cleaning, overall design, and a fair price tag of $197.00, it won. Even though the photo shows 2 toilets, we only purchased one (you looked confused). Oh, and we didn’t get the bouquet of flowers shown to the left of the toilets. I’m sure that would have been extra.

Toilet

image Of course installation didn’t go smoothly. Does it ever? The hoses don’t fit. This isn’t the same, that doesn’t fit. A trip to this store, a trip to that store. Jim took a break to eat dinner at about 9pm. He worked on the toilet again but alas, it’s working enough to use but one of the new fittings is defective. He’ll finish it tomorrow… after a trip with Grandma to St. Pete. Stay tuned.

  1. Definitely a MISadventure. Good thing you hooked up with such a handy guy! You wanna come on up to PA and fix my sump pump? I have a major science project going on in my basement.

  2. It's funny how much we forget how important a properly working toilet is in a home.

  3. We had the same damned problem when we replaced the toilet in our Airstream -- the hoses not matching up! It took 3 trips to the hardware store to FINALLY get the right connectors/adaptors so everything would fit right. We blamed it on the fact that we have an '89, but maybe it's a universal problem amongst all RVs :)

  4. @Joanie: He's mine. Mine, mine.

@Liz: I love this toilet. How odd is that statement?

@Ramona: Yeah we could have gotten the same model (paperword shows it was replaced a by a previous owner in 04) but we didn't like it anyway. The waste actual hits the inside of toilet shell, whereas the new one goes right down into the hole without pitstops.

  5. Yeah, but what if you have to actually USE the toilet before tomorrow????????? Just sayin...

(I laughed at your "boquet of flowers" comment!)

  6. Alix: The toilet is totally usable. The hand held sprayer connection needs redone and Jim wants to replace 2 more fitting that are old "just in case". Thanks for asking.

  7. Probably a strange question, but are those as short as they look? The one on the left appears all of a foot high in that picture.

I don't know if it's the lack of anything else in the picture to reference their size, or the fact they are shaped very differently than the standard house models or what, but they just look short to me.

My list of traits an acceptable partner must have has grown by one....I want him to be handy enough to do stuff like fix electrical sockets and replace toilets!

  8. I don't know what I'd do without your bathroom posts. Thank YOU!

  9. Alix: Bite me.

Walk On: The 2 toilets pictured are different. Good catch! Each toilet comes with a low profile or high profile option. Like for us, ours sits on a riser so we need a low profile. Standard house height is a high profile. They are shaped differently depending on the brand/model. Obviously they are all oval but some are wider than others. It depends on the amount of room you have for it.

  10. Ah! So the riser + shortie bowl = normal height for a toilet. I didn't think it through that they may have an elevated base for them, I just thought I'd have a heck of a time being able to get up from that one.

You have no clue how educational your blog is, do you? lol!

Thanks for clue, can't have too many of 'em. :)
