6-4-09 Thursday (Paint in the Blanks)

We awoke fairly early today but didn’t leave the RV until lunch time.  We went to a Mexican restaurant/buffet that we had spotted yesterday.  I didn’t enjoy any of it.  It was edible and that’s all I’ll give it.  Maybe that meant I ate 6 pounds less than the 15 normally?  Whatever.

Above: I thought this was amusing.  They reused the paper.  A balance sheet of sorts on one side and a sign on the other.  Recycling is good, but maybe not so much in a professional sense?

image After lunch we stopped into another alien crapfest store that was closed yesterday.  They had a few unique things that the others stores didn’t.  Again, it’s amazing that the stores are so understocked, with a few shelves that have nothing more than dust (which wasn’t priced, so probably not for sale).  I wonder what Nevada/Area 51 does to promote their wares?

We headed to the Roswell Museum and Art Center which offers a Planetarium.  When we arrived, the posted hours indicated it would open  at 1 so we killed a little time at the free museum.  We browsed the Robert H. Goddard Collection of
Liquid-Propellant Rocketry and then went into the art gallery.  There’s some strange things that people create and call “art”.  I’ve taken pictures of some for your amusement enjoyment.

Above: No, really, it’s blank.  The tag to the right of the painting is shown below.  I think it’s a gift because no one would buy the damn thing.

Above: I don’t know either.  Get me the BLEEP out of here.

Over to the planetarium we went.  This time, it was open.  The woman had to set up the show.  She said, “Sometimes I don’t see anyone for days.”  A hermit maybe?  Well, we watched the presentation about comets, quasars and black holes.  Eventually the lady came back in and announced that she had to close up because she was called into a meeting.  What the ?  Well, we had seen enough I guess.

Here’s me stopping off at the Roswell visitor’s center and mailing some postcards out from their R2D2 mailbox. (Thinking of our mailman friend, Al Parish.)

The owner of this campground (Red Barn RV Park) had suggested we visit the Spring River Zoo after 5pm since the animals are more active.  She was right.  It’s a 34 acres park that contains a small free zoo, with a large park of picnic tables and children’s play areas.  Pretty impressive.

I took tons of pictures at the zoo, but selected my favorites.

In yet another weak moment, we headed to Chili’s for dinner.  The server was fan-tabulous.  Very attentive.  We tipped well and let the manager know.  This guy constantly walked his tables and anticipated beverage needs.  After dinner, we popped over to Walmart again to get some Father’s Day Cards and an item or 2 we had forgotten.  This trip was mostly out of boredom.  There’s not much to do in Roswell so when we do it – it’s slowly – to make it last.  I did get a photo of unique Roswell beer:

I forgot to mention on yesterday’s blog entry 2 things.  I had the wrong date and day in the title and corrected it this morning.  The other is that Jim bought 2 t-shirts from the souvenir section.  He really liked both and so naturally he bought both.  It was apparently very difficult to decide between the 2 of them.  What’s odd about this is that we usually only purchase the Christmas ornament from our travel state and don’t typically get into the trinket trap.  The t-shirts were the exception I guess.

I must say, those are cool shirts.

A couple of alien related things I wanted to share.  An alien movie: see Mars Attacks.  It’s chock full of stars and is funny.

The other thing is a video game that I love.  It’s called Destroy All Humans (Game 1 and 2).  I have it for the Playstation 2.  I love this series and hope they come out with more.  I like that for a change, I get to play as the “bad guy”.

The movie below is showing gameplay so don’t bother watching if you’re not into video games.

  1. LOL, the train leaned to the left.

You're a hoot, Garret. So that makes me wonder why I never (until this very moment) subscribed to your blog. You know I'm a faithful follower, but my blog etiquette certainly ain't what it oughtta be. Forgiveness? I shall make it up to you, my friend, I promise. Maybe with bad Mexican food, and maybe with Peacocks, but I will find a way to make you love me.
