12-10-08 Wednesday (Caulkenstein)

The shower floor isn't cured yet from the latest attempt to reseal it. We went to the campground showers. Apparently Jim's shower had good pressure while mine was less than a 5 year old's pee stream.

Naturally, it's raining, but is now at the 45 degree mark. Yay for somethings, I guess. We're going to drive into Seattle for the hell of it. We think, based on weather forecasts, tomorrow may be the best day for the Space Needle. I'd hate to go up there and not see anything because of the rain, clouds and fog, or combination thereof. I looked at the Space Needle restaurant menu online and it's VERY expensive. If you eat there, they pay for the $16 per person fee for the elevator ride. That brings down the price substantially. Check out their menu
here.

We're back from a trip into Seattle. It's an interesting city. They have cable trams but they aren't on tracks. I guess they're actually steered. Interesting. Lots of old buildings mixed with new. We had lunch at a Red Robin (We'd never eaten at one before) which was located right on the water - Elliott Bay. The interstate was interesting. Several tunnels, some of which houses sat over, provided a "Gateway to the Pacific" as a carved sign above noted. So many bridges we drove under were lined with trees and rich overall with foliage. I'm not sure if it was for cars or pedestrians. There were so many of them. We spent a couple of hours walking around the water's edge before we made our way to the Space Needle. We just wanted to see it for now, knowing that eventually we'll be in it. Jim said it looked smaller than expected. When we got home he found it is 25 feet shorter than the St. Louis Arch.

Downtown Seattle is so rich with business. New apartment/condos/lofts are under construction. I'm amazed there's room to build these monstrosities. As best we can tell, they probably knock down the 1-2 story buildings.

There's a sightseeing pass, called a
GoSeattle Card. A coupe of years back we used something similar for Las Vegas. Basically, pay 1 price, see as many of the supported attractions as possible within 1 day, 2 days, etc. depending on the number of days you purchase. We went to the place that sells them downtown, but their price was higher. The online has an awesome price. We'll buy it on line and then take the voucher to them as a "will call". Jim picked out all the things we want to do (there's a lot of neat stuff here), added the prices and discovered the card is quite the bargain.

I've made meatloaf. 3 small ones actually. They take a long time to bake; by the time we get to eat tonight it will probably be 9pm. A late start to dinner.

I've named the neverending tub repair "Caulkenstein". You see, Caulkenstein is still not dry. Caulkenstein has a life of its own. It dictates to us when, how, and where.

I have a few pictures from today, but it's bed time. We have a big day at the Space Needle and surrounding area.

  1. I'm looking forward to hearing more and more about Seattle since I've never been there!!

    For the meatloaf... do you have a muffin tin? I make mini meatloaves in my cupcake/muffin pan and it cooks way faster and they are really yummy!!

  2. OMG!! That is one expensive menu!!! Go to Applebees or Fridays. They are running specials right now.
    I suppose everything is so lush in Seattle because of all the precipitation they get.
    Could be why Caulkenstein is taking so long to dry too. Good name for the shower though.

  3. Go someplace cool and local even if it is expensive. don't go to chains! (adamantly for the local guys! plus their food tastes better)The best places here are just local dives but they have yummy food.

    In Re: apple peelers vs. suction cup hooks! no we don't have either of those but we do have some fans left over from summer that you could use to dry out Caulkenstein... and then you wouldn't be Crankenstein anymore. Not that I've noticed.

  4. I love the meatloaf-in-a-muffin pan idea. Now I have to find a recipe for ketchup-based frosting. :)

    By the way, when you visit the Space Needle please do NOT touch the red button. It starts the launch sequence, and you'll be stuck on board until the Space Needle has completed it's mission (mending the Space Socks). So don't touch it.

  5. OH!! I just remembered to tell you that you can get Southern-style sweet tea at McDonald's.

  6. Oh bawahhh. Go to the Needle and have a meal, be it brunch or dinner. Sometimes you can't put a price on life. I assure you the view is breathtaking. Go, stay for at least an hour since it takes 60 minutes to make one revolution. :o) Yes, it is more expensive than the last time I was there, but it's the Needle! Egads, just go. While you're there take lots of stupid pictures and bitch about how bossy I am. :o) Love you bunches, Pearl
    PS ~ Nancy can probably give you our old address, maybe you could stop by and ring the doorbell and ask for a tour. You know, friends of previous owners and all that. ;o) (Be sure to insert sarcasm with that!)

  7. @Liz - I made 3 small meatloafs, and froze 2. I don't have enough muffin pans on board.

    @Joanie - Some McDonalds don't have the damn Sweet Tea either!

    @Lauren - We didn't even have lunch on the Space Needle day.

    @Here and There - You're a freak, I love you man.

    @Pearl - Too late, read Thursday's blog.
